Why Did We Create the Virtual Coaching Network?

Many PLCs and teacher teams launch successfully, but seem to struggle as they continue the ongoing work. From managing critical conversations to building trust to keeping all educators engaged, teams’ early excitement can fade over time if not properly nurtured.

The strongest indicator of success for Achievement Teams and other collaborative groups that we work with is an effective coach or leader. In fact, research suggests that professional learning, followed by coaching support, can increase the implementation of learning by 90% (Joyce, Showers 2011).

One factor that keeps many teams from being successful is the lack of tools and resources available for leaders and coaches to effectively partner with teachers. While many coaches are eager to jump in and guide their teams, most don’t have the tools to do so successfully.

The solution to this dilemma is the Achievement Teams & PLCs Virtual Coaching Network. Through this collaborative community, our team supports coaches and leaders as they navigate the best way to motivate, engage, and inspire their teams.

Network participants will be able to effectively:

  • Establish the conditions for a coaching partnership with teacher teams or PLCs
  • Navigate the role of a coach within the Achievement Teams framework and use this with any other team model they use at their school or district
  • Use questioning to activate critical thinking, increase engagement, and create ownership of the Achievement Teams four-step protocol
  • Utilize an instructional flip book to support teams with aligning teaching strategies with student learning goals
  • Empower teacher teams to assess their impact on student learning
